Linda Hesh biography (PDF 22KB)
My work explores human connections, whether it's personal or political, an intimate relationship or a marginalized group. I work in series starting with a word or sentence that exemplifies and distills a situation. My work is very conscious of speaking to an audience, declaring private musings publicly to play with taboos or challenge social norms. The didactic nature of the bold words derives from our desire to communally declare and explore our seemingly private selves.
I have two basic ways of working. Either I have everyday objects printed that I install and photograph in public locations or I digitally add type to photographs. My photographic style varies according to the subject. The printed products used in images can be exhibited along with the photographs referencing the commodification and of our ideals and personal relationships. I also welcome public interaction by selling art products for the public to use in their own installations and as well as centering a series around opinions stimulated by my art objects.
