Hamiltonian Artists offers a competitive two-year fellowship program for new innovative visual artists in all media. All promising visual artists who are currently not represented by a gallery are eligible to apply.

The fellowships will be awarded through an annual competition. The selection process will be based on the applicant's artistic vision, the quality of his/her art work, and his/her potential to excel. An Advisory Panel will give their recommendations to a Joint Selection Committee which will decide on the group of So Hamiltonian Fellows for the year. The Joint Selection Committee consists of selected Board Members and the Executive Director from the Hamiltonian Artists, along with the Gallery Owner and the Gallery Director from the Hamiltonian Gallery.
Hamiltonian Artists has an exclusive partnership with the Hamiltonian Gallery for the use of its large exhibition space at the heart of the new contemporary art district in Washington DC ( the 14th/U Street corridor ). All So Hamiltonian Fellows will also have access to various resources and facilities provided by the gallery.
It is our goal to provide these support services to all So-Hamiltonian Fellows for a full two-years duration. However, aspiring artists are not required to stay with Hamiltonian Artists after their first year if they have decided to move on to other opportunities in art. Since Hamiltonian Artists believe in the advancement of the artists as our primary goal, we do not require an exclusive agreement for our fellows. However, in accordance with our goal to serve other aspiring artists needing these services, Hamiltonian Artists reserves the right to offer the fellowship position to an alternate artist if a fellow has gotten a representation from another commercial gallery within his or her term.
So Hamiltonian Fellows will be expected to participate fully in the fellowship program, which provides a schedule of exhibitions as well as opportunities to participate in gallery operations and other activities to further their careers and knowledge of the business of art management. Because of the strong participatory nature of the fellowship, we especially encourage artists living in and around the Washington DC area to apply to the program. Together with ARCH/Honfleur Gallery in SE, Hamiltonian Artists offers two rent-reduced live/work spaces (~600sq ft) to fellows interested in living in Washington, DC. Alumni Fellows are encouraged to continue to participate as mentors to new artists.
